Canada embraced hundreds of thousands of permanent immigrants

Over the past several years, Canada embraced hundreds of thousands of permanent immigrants. With our immigration system designed to enrich and strengthen the social, economic and cultural fabric of Canadian society, we can expect to see a continued pattern of immigrants from across the world.

In general, if you are a professional, business investor, have an education, skill, or relevant work experience, you could be eligible to apply under one of the existing Economic Immigration Programs available to qualified persons.  Alternatively, if you wish to be with your family members in Canada, you may be eligible immigrate under a Family Sponsorship pathway.

Permanent Residents are persons who legally immigrate to Canada, have been given Permanent Residency status, and are not yet Canadian Citizens.  Permanent Residents must maintain their Permanent Residency status and live in Canada (with some exceptions) for at least 2 years within a 5 year period or risk losing their status. One of several ways to becoming a Canadian Citizen is through a process known as Naturalization which allows qualified Permanent Residents to apply for and become Canadian Citizens.

There are several immigration programs that allow eligible Foreign Nationals to immigrate to Canada permanently.  Some are Federal and others are Provincial.
